Cut the cost of diapers

Unit prices, store brands, the right size, and whether cloth pays off.

5 min read

Diapers are one of the most steady baby costs for two to three years. Small savings per diaper add up across thousands of changes.

Disposables

  • Compare the price per diaper, not per box
  • Try a store brand; many families notice no difference
  • Don't stock up heavily on newborn size; babies outgrow it fast
  • Move up a size when you see leaks or red marks, not just by weight
  • Use store apps and subscribe-and-save only if the per-diaper price is really lower

Cloth

Cloth diapers cost more up front and save money over time, especially if you use them for more than one child. Count the cost of extra laundry, and remember childcare providers may require disposables.

Wipes

Unscented store-brand wipes or soft washcloths with water are cheaper than premium wipes.
